The HANDACT hand surgery training model offers new levels of realism for surgery simulation. Designed to complement practice on cadavers and real patients, this simulator enables practice for a number of different procedures including microvascular surgery, digital replantation and placement of screws and rods.
The model is designed to reflect the constraints of the human body as it accurately reflects the bent position of fingers that have been anaesthetised. The HANDACT hand surgery simulator includes a skeleton human hand. This includes the distal parts of radius and ulna, carpal and metacarpal bones and the phalanges. These last two elements can be fractured to practise the placement of osteosynthesis implants. It also includes the flexor and extensor tendons with annular pulleys to represent a realistic movement to each finger and enabling the practise of tendinous sutures. Digit nerves and arteries are also included.
Training surgeons can practice micro-vascular sutures and obtain simulated microsurgical anastomosis. The skeleton is wrapped in a flesh-like envelope which has been developed to imitate physical attributes of human skin and soft tissues to ensure that the simulator is as close as possible to a human hand.
This surgery simulator tool would be ideal as a tool to use during didactic demonstrations or during timed exercises and could also be used to evaluate as well as train students.
This surgery trainer is part of a range developed by French manufacturer Creaplast to enable students to increase their knowledge and experience of surgery in a more ethical and economical way than using cadavers. AnatomyStuff.co.uk is the exclusive UK distributor for Creaplast products.
