Discover the Bariatric Training Manikin, a manikin for the training of bariatric rescue procedures or when there is the need to move/handle a heavier individual in emergency situations. The manikin is suitable for use in a wide range of sectors, including Fire & Rescue services, hospitals, and the ambulance crew, as they will all experience heavier casualties.
As obesity is a major issue in the Western world, heavy individuals will be encountered in a wide range of sectors, e.g., airplanes, cruise ships, prisons and care homes, to name a few. All industries will thus have a requirement to provide training in the safe handling of heavier people in an emergency. This ensures the safety of, not only the casualty, but of those undertaking the procedures.
The manikin is durable and made of heavy-duty polyester that is non-flammable and waterproof, therefore suitable for wet and foul scenarios, including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defence (CBRN defence). It is the same material used in the production of police ballistic/stab vests. This makes it durable and tough enough to withstand being buried under heavy objects or dropped from height without damage. Furthermore, it is constructed to simulate a realistic experience and achieves a ??fluidity of movement with regards to its weight distribution.
The manikin comes complete with a carrying sheet for the carrying and repositioning of the manikin and is designed for a team of at least 4-6 people to carry out the manoeuvre. The carry sheet follows the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and has a safe working load of 600kgs. If necessary, the manikin can be enhanced with an immobilisation/extrication collar to promote proper casualty care.
Obesity is an increasing problem globally, so there is an increasing need in providing training using heavier manikins, stressing the importance of the Bariatric Training Manikin. The manikin is anatomically correct and give the ??feel of an unconscious person, helping improve pre-hospital clinical care. To simulate varying levels of difficulty, the manikin can be purchased in various weights, ranging from 90kg up to 260kgs.
