Discover the Body Recovery Training Manikin, a manikin to train users to recover bodies from inland waterways and from under ice. This is suitable and extensively used by police forces, UK Fire & Rescue Services, USA coastguards, as well as equivalent organisations worldwide.
The manikin is similar to the Man Overboard Manikin but differs in that it is designed to sink, instead of float. The construction of the manikin using an H/D reinforced Nylon mesh for the carcass allows the water to flood into the body, enabling it to sink in and out as it is being recovered. It is important that rescue organisations have a pre-established protocol for the retrieval of bodies in various locations and scenarios, e.g., inland water and under ice.
The manikin is constructed using the same flame-retardant material which is found in Police ballistic/stab vests. This makes it durable and tough enough to withstand being buried under heavy objects or dropped from a height of around 5-6 metres into water without any damage. There is added flexibility of the manikin in the water due to the built in Polypropylene strips that prevent the manikin from bending in half when using recovery devices, e.g., a stretcher.
To make the training experience more realistic, a face mask and wig can be added so that the manikin has a human-like appearance. This allows easy identification of the body in poor visibility when the search is carried out by touch only.
The Body Recovery Training Manikin will make a valuable addition to training sessions and is currently used by respectable organisations worldwide. The manikin will enable users to simulate life-saving rescue scenarios and gain confidence in pre-established protocols
