Multinodular Goitre
This post-mortem specimen is sectioned to reveal internal laryngeal and tracheal structures. The thyroid gland, notably the enlarged right lobe, extends beyond its normal margins, exhibiting hyper- and hypopigmented nodules and cystic areas on the posterior surfaces. The base of the tongue, larynx, and trachea maintain a relatively normal appearance.
Retrosternal Goitre
This post-mortem specimen exhibits gross enlargement, especially in the right lobe, which extends beyond its normal margins in both superior and inferior directions when viewed anteriorly. Posteriorly, the oesophagus is opened to reveal the tracheal posterior wall. The right lobe, particularly the inferior pole, appears enlarged, with visible veins and no significant pigmentary changes on the surfaces.
