Given how challenging it can be to perform venepuncture on infants and children, first practising on the model offers students a valuable learning opportunity. The durable skin of the model allows for repeated use, ensuring students gain all the confidence and experience they need.
Students can begin by palpating the veins in the hand and lower arm of the model. Then they can practise their venepuncture skills in the superficial vein of the lower arm. A realistic ‘pop’ can be felt when the needle penetrates the veins and realistic backflow of blood or fluid is injected in the syringe.
The hand skin and the veins can be easily removed and replaced after use.
