Child Care Experience Programme

We’re thrilled to introduce the new Child Care Experience (CCE) programme! This all-in-one solution lets you transform your classroom into a dynamic “pop-up childcare centre”, creating a safe and controlled environment where students can practice managing the needs of multiple infants at once.

Caring for infants is a unique and rewarding skill that requires practice in feeding, nappy changes, soothing, and ensuring safety. For students exploring careers in childcare, hands-on experience is key to building both confidence and competence.

Elevate Early Childhood Education

Launched in 2024, the award-winning Child Care Experience Programme by RealityWorks is a comprehensive simulation package for early childhood education projects and practical childcare skills training. It provides an immersive experience where students manage the care of multiple infants simultaneously and comes with everything needed to simulate a childcare environment.

The curriculum integrates the use of the babies into multiple lessons to practice caregiving skills. The built-in assessment provides an easy way for instructors to evaluate skills. Each simulation experience is customisable to the difficulty level and experience desired, with enrichment activities and four sets of scenario cards included to make classroom management easier while students rotate through the simulation.

The course teaches a wide range of transferable career skills in infant care. Students clock in to work their shift and log infant care into the Baby Care Journal, emulating this realistic skill. Random scenarios are introduced to challenge students’ coping skills in infant health and parent communication.

The CCE Babies also act as standalone training manikins for infant CPR and airway obstruction. Babies come in multiple skin tones, representing a diverse population. Please note the skin tone of babies cannot be amended, however additional babies can be purchased in a range of skin tones.

Participants can:

  • Assess infants' needs, such as feeding, burping, rocking, changing, soothing, or addressing choking incidents
  • Record all care activities in the Baby Care Journal
  • Properly handle and respond to infants' needs
  • Simultaneously manage several infants with different age profiles
  • Address random scenarios involving infant health and parent communication

The Child Care Experience software can:

  • Monitor child abuse incidents, care successes, attempts, or omissions, and journal entries, along with responses to random scenarios and student involvement
  • Tailor simulations to various difficulty levels and experiences for individuals or groups
  • Provide detailed assessment reports

Choose from the 4 or 8 baby package. The 4 baby package includes 2 each of the 3-month and 9-month old babies; the 8 baby package includes 4 of each baby.

      Customer Success Stories

Every child deserves a nurturing environment where they can thrive, and every caregiver deserves the tools and support to make that possible.

I don’t think students really realise how much of a responsibility this field is until they have a little taste of that experience, and I think the Child Care Experience program really gave it to them. I even had one student, who used the program this past semester, tell me she thinks this is something she wants to do – she wants to be a preschool teacher. That’s huge because these careers are in dire need of people who want to invest in the lives of children and so if they get a little taste of that, that’s my goal as a teacher.

With my college level class, they all got very anxious as many had not worked with children this small so they did not know what to expect. When all the babies started to cry at once, they became overwhelmed (even when there was 2 people to each baby). I feel this is important because it allows students to have hands-on experience, even if they are too young to work in a childcare setting at the time. This also allows for students to be introduced to the various situations that are often in a childcare setting.

      Frequently Asked Questions

How many Child Care Experience babies do I need to run my programme?
To get started, you'll need a minimum of four Child Care Experience (CCE) babies. For larger classes with more than 30 students, we recommend using eight Babies. The ideal number depends on factors such as your class size, the number of days available for rotating students through the experience, and how frequently you plan to use the simulation.. For more information and guidance please contact our team.
How much classroom space do I need for a simulation?
For a four-Baby simulation, we recommend an 2.5m x 2.5m space. This setup should include enough room for a tablet, at least four portable cribs, a changing table, a highchair, a tummy time blanket on the floor, and sufficient space for students to move around and interact with the items comfortably.
Are students able to record childcare activities similar to a professional childcare centre?
Yes. Childcare best practices include logging a child’s activities throughout the day. This can be achieved by recording activities on a printable daily report sheet. Alternatively, the software enables students/caregivers to input specific care events, such as handwashing following a nappy change, directly within the app.
What care events are students responsible for in a simulation?
Students are responsible for burping, changing nappies, rocking, fussy events (using the dummy for the 9-month-old Baby and soothing blanket for the 3-month-old Baby), feeding, and dislodging choking objects.
What do my students do when not actively involved in the simulation?
Students can observe the simulation or use the four different scenario card sets to practice childcare career soft skills and problem-solving challenges with each other.
Do I need IT support to run the Child Care Experience programme?
No, this programme is run through an included smart device with the Child Care Experience app already installed. Product Support will contact you when updates are needed and walk you through the simple update process.
