The Bone Clones Hominid Skulls Collection are high quality casts of key fossil discoveries, including anatomically modern humans, archaic humans, early Homo, and other hominins, representing a valuable addition to anthropological and evolutionary studies.
These two Homo heidelbergensis fossils offer important insights into the diversity and evolutionary links between H. erectus, H. neanderthalensis, and H. sapiens.
Atapuerca 5 (350,000–500,000 YA), found in Spain’s Sima de los Huesos cave site, is one of the most complete premodern skulls ever discovered. With a cranial capacity of 1125 cc, it shows traits overlapping those of H. erectus, Neanderthals, and modern humans—such as heavy browridges and a projecting face—yet also features not seen in Neanderthals, like cheekbone shape.
Broken Hill 1 (274,000–324,000 YA), also known as Kabwe 1 or Rhodesian Man, was discovered in Zambia and is the first early human fossil found in Africa. It displays a mix of archaic and modern traits: a broad face, thick browridges, sloping forehead, and a large cranial capacity of 1300 cc. The skull also shows evidence of advanced dental disease in 10 upper teeth.
