The Bone Clones Hominid Skulls Collection are high quality casts of key fossil discoveries, including anatomically modern humans, archaic humans, early Homo, and other hominins, representing a valuable addition to anthropological and evolutionary studies.
These three important Homo sapiens fossils trace the emergence and spread of anatomically modern humans from Africa into Eurasia.
Cro-Magnon (30,000–32,000 YA) Unearthed in France, this skull represents early modern humans in Western Europe. It features a high forehead, rectangular orbits, prominent chin, hollowed cheeks, and a large brain (over 1600 cc). Some researchers note greater resemblance to modern African populations, supporting African origins for this group.
Skhul 5 (100,000 YA) Found near Mount Carmel, Israel, Skhul 5 is one of the earliest modern human fossils outside Africa. With a brain size of 1520 cc, it has a high forehead and rounded skull, but also retains archaic traits like pronounced brow ridges and a projecting lower face—suggesting possible interbreeding with Neanderthals.
Herto (160,000–154,000 YA) Discovered in Ethiopia, this nearly complete adult skull (1450 cc) shows a mix of archaic and modern features. Designated Homo sapiens idaltu by some, it’s considered a likely direct ancestor of modern humans and key evidence for the "Out of Africa" model. The remains were found with Acheulean and Middle Stone Age tools and show signs of postmortem defleshing, likely as part of mortuary practices.
Also available as a half scale detailed model sculpted by Steve Wagner. These portable and precise models are great for quick and easy hominid comparison.
