The Pitting Oedema Skills Trainer is a unique training model that allows students to observe and engage in the examination and practice of assessing the four evolving stages of pitting oedema. The model is optimally suited for educational use in medical, nursing, and healthcare professional contexts.
A critical component of patient assessment includes observation of limb oedema prompted by abnormal fluid accumulation within the interstitial spaces of tissue. Application of pressure to the skin surface can produce a persistent indentation termed ??pitting oedema ?, which is graded based on the indentation depth and post-pressure persistence duration.
The simulator employs naturalistic skin to illustrate progressive stages 1+ to 4+ in the subsequent manner:
- Stage 1+: Mild pitting with minor indentation (2mm) and negligible area swelling.
- Stage 2+: Moderate pitting with indentation (4mm) that rapidly subsides.
- Stage 3+: Profound pitting with indentation (6mm) lingering briefly, accompanied by a noticeable area swelling.
- Stage 4+: Highly pronounced pitting, yielding indentation (8mm) of substantial duration, accompanied by marked area swelling.
The skills that can be practiced include:
- Examination of stages 1+ to 4+
- Examination of depth (2mm ?? 8mm)
- Analysis of rebound duration to baseline
The Pitting Oedema Skills Trainer is equipped with a set of four tissue pads, each dedicated to a specific stage. It also comes with an insertion tray, a key card containing instructions for cleaning and care, and a dedicated storage box.
Available in both light and medium skin tones.
