The MIKE and MICHELLE One-Year-Old Paediatric Care Simulator is a nursing teaching aid designed to represent a one-year-old infant. This is ideal for use by students studying medicine and nursing.
The manikin's genitalia is interchangeable, therefore can be used to simulate either a male or female, for various patient scenarios, e.g., catheterisation. It has anatomically accurate structures, including hands, feet, fingers, and toes. The head and jaw can fully articulate, and for added realism, the manikin has teeth and a tongue.
The paediatric trainer facilitates training in the following procedures:
- Male and female catheterisation exercises with a realistic urethral passage
- Eyes open and close for ophthalmic procedures
- Ear canal for otic drops and irrigation
- Nasogastric and orogastric exercises, e.g., Nasal intubation
- General nursing care practices, such as soft sponge bathing and bandaging
- Intramuscular injection with sites in the left and right upper thighs
- Tracheostomy placement
- Enema administration
Overall, the MIKE and MICHELLE One-Year-Old Paediatric Care Simulator is an excellent addition to clinical skills sessions. Students will be able to gain confidence in performing vital paediatric nursing skills, in a relaxed environment, under professional guidance. A carrying bag has been supplied for ease of transport and the manikin can be folded at the waist so it can be stored easily.
