The Pericardial Space 3D Printed Anatomy Model is a specimen that illustrates the parietal peritoneum reflections and the heart's orientation relative to other structures like the diaphragm and lungs. The pericardium, a fibroserous sac encasing the heart, extends to the heart's serous visceral layer. The base of the heart, mainly the left atrium, forms the posterior surface, anchoring the heart through the great vessels.
The transverse pericardial sinus, visible between the pulmonary arteries and the great vessels, is relevant in certain cardiac procedures. The apex, formed by the inferolateral left ventricle, lies in the left fifth intercostal space. The heart's inferior aspect rests on the diaphragmatic surface, mainly the left ventricle. The pulmonary surfaces reflect onto the lungs. The aorta, superior and inferior vena cava, pulmonary trunk, and pulmonary veins are major vessels associated with the heart. The transverse and oblique pericardial sinuses represent points of convergence between parietal and visceral pericardium.
