This anthropological skull casting of "KNM-ER 406, Omo L. 7a-125" has been produced from specimens that reside in the collection based at the Institute of Anthropology and Human Genetics for Biologists in Germany. This unique skull (VP755/1 / 100129) is supplied with a pedestal containing a relief map of the geographical area where the specimen was found.
The Kalvarium skull on which the replica is based is approximately 1.7 million years old and was discovered at Lake Rudolph (now Lake Turkana) in 1970. The partial mandible comes from a different place but has been identified as being from the same species. There is still some discussion on which classification this skull belongs to: either an Australopithecus boisei or a Paranthropus boisei.
